What you'll do...:
This seasonal tax researcher role on the state regulatory affairs team will require you to research and draft written memoranda of law on moderate to complex state and local tax issues for various internal departments and tax teams. To be considered, We require two writing samples, preferably a legal memo or case memo, not to exceed five pages.
Day to day, you’ll...
- Assist tax software developers by researching and answering federal, state, and local tax related questions. You will be required to provide well-reasoned interpretations of existing tax law, regulations, and tax instructions in plain English for use by tax development teams, who are non-lawyers
- Edit, review, and fact check a variety of tax-related materials produced by self and team to verify accuracy and completeness of material
- Update and edit multi-state quick reference charts for internal departments and H&R Block’s U.S. tax professionals
What you'll bring to the team...:
- A minimum of 3 years legal research, tax preparation, or related experience
- Professional designation or license in a field regulated under Treasury Circular 230 (Enrolled Agent, CPA, or Attorney)
- Ability to interpret, analyze, and correctly formulate solutions to highly complex tax situations
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated writing skills in informational, educational, and training materials
- Proficiency with Windows-based computer systems
- Proficiency with PC applications including but not limited to Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Proficiency with at least one online tax research tool (RIA, CCH, orBNA)
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Credential regulated under Circular 230 (Enrolled Agent, CPA, or Attorney)
It would be even better if you also had...:
- Masters degree in Tax, Business, Accounting, Finance, or other related field
- Judicial Clerkship or experience writing memoranda of law

Pay Range Information:
The pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. This information is posted pursuant to local requirements to provide applicants with information about what they might be eligible to receive. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed. Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan.
Qualifying associates can enroll themselves and/or their eligible dependents in medical and prescription drug coverage; can participate in the H&R Block Retirement Savings Plan (401(k) Plan), the Employee Assistance Program, (virtual) fitness center programs, and the associate discount program; are automatically enrolled in Business Travel Accident Insurance; and receive Associate Tax Prep benefit.
Pay Range:
$53,800.00 - $80,700.00/Yr.
