OBJECTIVE:
To outline the correct method of training new and cross-trained employees in such areas as: job specific training, Equipment set up and operation, knife/blade handling or removing, proper work methods, OSHA required employee training (PIT, LOTO, Chemical Specific Training, annual safety training) etc. Cross train existing employees as needed for job changes, transfers, etc. As a trainer you should be geared towards teaching and training employees on the policies and procedures rather than just enforcing them.
RESPONSIBILITY:
The designated associate assigned the task of Sanitation trainer is responsible for performing the task as outlined in this work instruction.
RESOURCES:
Eye Protection, Hearing Protection, Hard Hat, polyurethane suit, chemical resistant gloves/sleeves, goggles/face mask combo, rubber safety-toe boots.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This job requires the ability to train sanitation employees on their specific tasks including, dry pick-up, first rinse, detergent application, Lockout/tag out as required for specific tasks etc. The employee must be able to communicate with employees in English and Spanish. The employee must have the ability to read and understand the English/Spanish language as it relates to the training and paperwork requirements of the job. The employee must learn all the paperwork associated with their assigned areas of responsibility (forms, logs, work instructions, procedures, etc.). The employee must help with written and verbal translations as needed. Computer skills are helpful. The employee must have the ability to learn all jobs in his/her assigned areas to a required level of proficiency. The employee is responsible for all training documentation and must be able to keep training files up to date and maintain their accuracy. Employees must communicate with the area supervisor about any issues regarding his/her trainee’s progress. This job requires the ability to reach and grasp both hands and extend arms fully. When possible, cross training in other areas/depts will be needed. Employees must have hand/finger dexterity to grasp hose and scrub brushes. Must be able to work in a cold environment with temperatures ranging from 40o to 50o F. This position will have to work holiday nights to prepare the plant for production the morning after a holiday. Some weekends will be required as well.
TRAINING POINTS:
Proper use of PPE, use of stretching exercises to relieve muscle fatigue, OSHA Safety training topics (PIT, LOTO, Bloodborne Pathogens, PPE, Machine Guarding, HAZCOM, PSM, Chemical Specific Training.), Proper classroom training methods, Equipment set up/tear down and operation. New Employee Orientation topics, Basic First Aid/CPR, Proper job technique training.
BASIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

HEALTH/ERGONOMIC: Possible ergonomic risk factors for this job may include repetition, awkward postures and/or excessive force. An anti-fatigue mat may be used to ease fatigue to the feet and legs. Proper use of sharpening steels is essential to keep knives sharp to help reduce the amount of required force. Back safety - Use of lifting mechanisms when assembling or disassembling equipment during training activities
