Salary Range: $108,800 - $135,800

Schedule: Office - On Site

Title: Sr Accountant Lead – Gross Margin Networks

Responsibilities

This highly technical position takes a lead role in supporting the gross margin accounting responsibilities performed by Avangrid and its affiliates, including electric and gas commodity (A/P) transactions, transmission and distribution revenue recognition, customer billing and accounts receivable/uncollectible analysis, gas in storage and hedge accounting transactions. Incumbents to this position are expected to use independent professional judgment and advanced knowledge to carry out both technical and administrative assignments, in addition to supervising junior level staff in their assignments. Responsible to provide data and analysis for internal and external financial requirements/requests in a timely manner, including regulatory support, sometimes under accelerated regulatory deadlines. Perform ad hoc financial analysis, including business case support, as needed. Lead effort in achieving team and departmental goals.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Demonstrate the ability to explain difficult/complex accounting concepts (both IFRS and USGAAP) in a manner that makes it easier for others to understand.
• Obtain in-depth working knowledge of the Company’s financial data and knowledge of the business.
• Review and/or prepare complex specialized calculations (unbilled revenue, Customer A/R reserve analysis, and derivative accounting workbooks).
• Review or guide other junior staff on all interfaces, including review and testing, relevant to gross margin accounting.
• Review new organizational contracts and provide assessment for lease and derivative implications.
• Provide audit support and analysis for internal and external audit requirements. Lead audit walkthroughs assist in audit deliverables, completion of internal controls.
• Work collaboratively with others assuming informal and formal leadership roles as needed in order to share understanding and build consensus.
• Manage projects or teams, including coordination of resources outside of own area.
• Lead others to resolve complex problems in non-standard situations.
• Provides technical direction and training to other Accounting staff members.

Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required in a related analytic discipline including but not limited to Accounting, Auditing, Finance or Economics and at least 6 years of related work experience. The equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
• Utility experience, understanding of utility financials, advanced Excel skills and experience with SAP financial systems
• Additional experience with project management experience a plus

• Strong analytic and critical thinking skills with the ability to grasp new concepts quickly
• Ability to prioritize and shift priorities for self and team in conjunction with the Manager, as necessary
• Strong communicator (verbal and written)
• Able to lead a group of two or more individuals
• Advanced knowledge of applications and mainframe accounting systems is required
• Detailed knowledge of GAAP, IFRS and FERC Accounting requirements and utility industry practices

• Attention to detail, including ability to dive down to root-cause when issues arise
