Position Overview

 

The Distributor Driver drives  distributor truck with capacity of 3,000 gallons to transport emulsion to and from specified destinations,  application of asphalt/tack on highway/roadways/parking lots/driveways.  During the off season you will drive a truck and pup, transfer, or belt trailer.  This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of equipment/trucks. Work will be performed per the supervisor’s instruction.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Operates asphalt distributor truck.
  • During the off season you will drive a truck and pup, transfer, or belt trailer. 
  • Sets spray bar on manual, automatic, or semi-automatic distributors for applying liquid asphalt.
  • Apply liquid from distributor to designated area with attention to detail and emphasis on craftsmanship.
  • Connect and disconnect pup trailer.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the proper tools and equipment for the task.
  • Properly follow all company policies, FMCSA regulations, and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environmen t.
  • Attendance required according to company attendance policy to ensure crew can operate at normal efficiency levels.
  • Attitude/cooperation: always supporting courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers and public.
  • Physical ability to operate distributor and to perform manual labor as needed.
  • May oil, grease, service and make normal operating adjustments to equipment.
  • Willing to perform/assist with other positions for job completion as needed.
  • Ability to be flexible with last minute schedule changes, location changes, time of shift changes. Overtime work required.
  • Ability to adhere to PPE (personal protective equipment) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition as supplied by company.
  • Must be able to adapt and work in extreme weather temperatures.
  • Will be exposed to extremes of heat or cold weather.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; two years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Certificates, License, Registrations

  • Must possess a valid state commercial driver’s license (CDL) Class A with  Tanker Endorsement.
  • Must possess a valid Medical Card as per DOT standard.

 

Work Requirements

  • One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Incident free driving record preferred
  • May be subject drug and alcohol, medical exams, and physical agilities testing.

 

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to communicate using two-way radio.
  • Basic math
  • Basic computer skills preferred

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is  occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders. The employee must  occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 75 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
